Art of Remembrance
A remarkable series of specially-commissioned works by artist Sara Hughes titled Colour Quartet (full series x 4 artworks) are now available to purchase.
Proceeds will support the building’s restoration and development into a new cultural destination and centre for music for all. The silkscreen-on-brass artworks are inspired by nature, music, and the theme of hope for the future. Available to buy individually, in pairs, as a triptych (3), quartet (4) or installation.
These are the latest in the ‘Art of Remembrance’ project launched in 2015 with the Remembrance quatrefoil-shaped artworks of Max Gimblett ONZM, and the 2018 Te Tonga Whetu o te Rangi Southern Star lapel artworks by Warwick Freeman.

About
Colour Quartet
Sara Hughes’ abstracted artworks glow gold, and colourful rays of light radiate through luminous skies and green land, each a statement of optimism, to honour the hopes of generations past for a brighter future.
Sara Hughes says “The Colour Quartet artworks are inspired by what Kāhui St David’s stands for – remembrance, light-filled soaring architecture, and optimism for a musical future.
The quartet is also like the four seasons – each artwork has its own energy.
Music and art are a universal language – they both have the potential to uplift the human spirit. The proceeds from the sale of the artworks will support the ongoing restoration of St David’s Memorial Church - now home to Kāhui St David’s centre for music, community and remembrance.
Kāhui St David’s is also working to support the music ecosystem and that means creating opportunities for sustainable careers for musicians.
We invite you to order your artwork to enjoy on your walls - and to support this grassroots initiative to see this building serve Auckland, the region and beyond.
